OMISORE WARNS AREGBESOLA AGAINST PATRONAGE OF PRIVATE GUARDS, TELLS TINUBU TO STEER CLEAR OF OSUN

Date:

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the August 9,2014 governorship elections in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore has warned Governor Rauf Aregbesola against further the use of private guards for his security, saying such arrangement was against the constitution of the country.

Omisore declared that Governor Aregbesola lacks the charisma to lead a state like Osun, hence the need to be voted out in the August 9 election by the people.

Omisore who is a former deputy governor of the state and former chairman, Senate Committee on Finance and Appropriation spoke in Osogbo during a special prayer session organised for him by the state chapter of the PDP said the Police are the only institution empowered to provide security for individuals.
The governor has allegedly been using private security guards called “state Boys” and the “Tawan Boys” as part of his security since assuming office.

Omisore said the use of such private security guards was against the spirit of the nation’s federal system, which he said gives recognition to only the Police force to provide security to individuals.

The former deputy governor, who maintained that Aregbesola was not empowered to use private security guards, stressed the need for the Police to constantly search Aregbesola’s convoy.

He called on the Police to ensure proper scrutiny of Aregbesola’s security guards, even as he urged members of the public not to accord the private security guards any recognition.

Omisore also warned the former Governor of Lagos state and National Leader of the APC, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu to steer clear of the state ahead of the August 9 election, adding that “Tinubu will regret any attempt he makes to cause violence in the state before, during and after the election.”

“Tinubu does not have monopoly of violence and he will regret if he tries to cause crisis in Osun” Omisore stressed.

He urged members of the PDP to take the next gubernatorial election with all seriousness, as according to him the election would be a serious battle between the APC and PDP.
