The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Mr Jimi Agbaje, has said that the party will free residents of the state from the ‘bondage’ of 16 years the ruling party in the state have subjected them to.
Agbaje made this disclosure at the Town Hall Meeting of the Goodluck Support Group (GSG), a group of supporters seeking the installation of Agbaje as the next governor of the state as well as seeking the re-election of President Jonathan.
In his remarks at the event which was held at the International Trade Fair Complex, Ojo, Lagos, Mr Agbaje insisted that the only ‘change’ (referring to the slogan of the state ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC)) that Lagosians needed, was a change in a government which he said, had held Lagos residents in different kinds of bondage. He listed some of the ‘bondage’ as ‘wicked’ policies, ‘back-breaking’ taxes, corruption, among others.
“Change is not for every place, but change is especially needed in Lagos whose residents, both indigenes and non-indigenes, need to be freed from bondage,” he said.
Agbaje, who is popularly referred to as JK, did not hide his optimism about the prospect of his party to emerge victorious in the coming elections, as he declared that “the opposition will be shocked at President’s Jonathan landslide victory in Lagos.”
In her remarks, the leader of GSG, Lagos, Dr Chika Eze, enjoined all member groups of GSG to continue to set aside their differences and work together to achieve a common goal, which, according to her, is to make Agbaje the next governor of Lagos State, as well as ensure that President Jonathan returns into office for another four years.
She also urged all female members of the group, as well as other PDP supporters in the state to rally round in support of the First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan, who is being expected in Lagos on Thursday, for the continuation of her campaigns for the incumbent president.
The visit of the First Lady, according to Eze, will be a precursor of a mega rally being envisioned by the group before the elections are held.
