Legislators on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may be plotting to oust or at least cower the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, National Mirror gathered yesterday.
A member of the PDP caucus in the Green Chamber told the reporter that members of his party would no longer leave matters to the whims of the presiding officer whom they suspect might be courting the opposition
All Progressives’ Congress, APC. “With all due respect to the Speaker, we are becoming uncomfortable with the way things are going in the House. A case in point here is how he has been ruling on sensitive matters in the House lately.
“We fault some of his rulings on some key issues, and we in the majority would no longer tolerate his biased rulings on issues in favour of the APC when we resume next week,” he said.
According to the source, the caucus might consider the option of hemming in the speaker or removing him outright, if he continued to identify with the opposition. He said the rule that allows any party member to preside over the House, might not apply if certain trends persisted.
“The speaker’s party does not matter in this instance. We are not saying he must be in PDP to stay as speaker, but we are saying anybody can be removed as speaker, be they APC or PDP, if we feel we are no longer comfortable with such a presiding officer,” he added. But in his reaction, the spokesman of the House, Hon. Zakari Muhammed said he would not comment on the issue until the resumption of the House.
“I cannot comment on that now, until we resume,” he said.
