All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has perfected plans in collaboration with security agencies to replicate the strategy allegedly used in the governorship election, which was held in Ekiti State in June 2014, to manipulate the forthcoming elections with barely six days before the presidential poll.
National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, spoke yesterday while addressing a press conference in Lagos State, stressing that President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration has perfected plans to manipulate the elections by using what we call the ‘Modified Ekiti Rigging Strategy’.
Mohammed referred to the audio tape, which was released by a fleeing soldier of Nigerian Army, allegedly revealing how the rigging strategy of the governorship election, which was held in Ekiti State last year reportedly perfected.
“It is no longer news that a captain in the Nigerian Army, Sagir Koli, has exposed how the present administration used the military to rig the governorship election, which was held in Ekiti State on June 21, 2014.
“According to Sagir, soldiers were put at the behest of designated officials of PDP at each of the 16 local government councils of the state to work with them (the officials) to rig the election.
“Once the officials of PDP pointed to any leader of APC in a particular local government council, he/she was either arrested and detained or simply hounded into hiding.
“Leaders of APC, who were arrested, also had the funds in their possession including money to pay party agents and for other logistics, confiscated as they were detained till after the election.”
He emphasised that fresh facts have been revealed on the alleged election rigging scam in Ekiti State, adding that aside the personnel of Nigerian Army, other security agencies were also involved in the manipulation of the governorship poll.
“We have additional information to give you on what has now become Ekitigate. Contrary to the general belief, it was not just the military that was involved. It was the entire gamut of the country’s security agencies: The police, State Security Service (SSS) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
“They were all constituted into task force, which was deployed in each local government councils of the state and placed under the command of PDP. We have the names of all the servicemen involved in the criminal act as well as their service and telephones numbers.”
