POLICE TO RECRUIT 10,000 PERSONNEL

Date:

Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, has said that the recruitment of 10,000 personnel into the Nigeria Police Force as recently instructed by President Muhammadu Buhari will commence very soon, assuring that the exercise would be thorough and transparent.

He stated this at the weekend while speaking through the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, in charge of Zone 7, Abuja, Mr. Bala Nassarawa, during a tour of the Niger State Command, warning that any member of the Force or civil populace caught trying to use money to influence the recruitment exercise in favour of any candidate would be thoroughly dealt with.
“The Commander-in-Chief’s instruction for recruitment will soon commence in police formations across the country and the issue of anyone, especially policemen and women asking us to recruit his or her brother or sister and such persons approach the officers in charge of the exercise with money would not arise. Please do not get yourselves involved in an unholy activity.
“We are going to conduct a very transparent recruitment and anyone caught using money to influence our decision would be dealt with. The Nigerian public should also beware because this time around it is going to be tough, so they should not try that.”
He stated that members of the Nigeria Police cannot afford to
sit on the fence against the backdrop of the wind of change blowing across the country, adding that personnel should not be left behind with regards to the ethics of policing, the way they do things and how they relate with members of the public.
The IGP commended officers and men of the Niger State Police Command for their efforts in reducing crime to the barest minimum, especially the issue of cattle rustling, commercial kidnapping, armed robbery and other sundry criminal activities within the command.
He charged them to either maintain the tempo or improve on their performance, adding that area commanders and divisional police officers attached to the command should assist the Police Commissioner, Mr. Abubakar Marafa, to succeed, saying, “if he succeeds, it is not only him that has succeeded but the entire State Police Command.’’
