REDEPLOYMENT OF DPOS IN LAGOS NOT POLITICAL – POLICE

Date:

Lagos State police authority has debunked the claim in some quarters that the redeployment of all divisional police officers in the metropolis have political undertone.
As at yesterday, over 90 per cent of divisional police officers have been redeployed to different police stations in the state.
A senior police officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the Lagos State commissioner of police, Mr Cornelius Aderanti was bent on ensuring a free and fair election in the state and the best way to achieve a credible election was to reshuffle the divisional police officers among the 107 police stations in the state.
He said most of the DPOs were close to politicians within their domain.
The state Police command’s spokesperson, DSP Kenneth Nwosu debunked the claim, saying, “what the commissioner of police did is a common police routine. The commissioner has the liberty to deploy a divisional police officer anywhere he deems fit for the affected officer. It is also necessary to fill the vacant positions left behind by the DPOs who were promoted from the rank of CSP to assistant commissioners of police, recently. The commissioner of police believe in zero crime tolerance. You can bear me witness that crime has reduced drastically since he assumed office as Lagos CP.”
LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered that 19 CSPs were promoted to assistant commissioners while four assistant commissioners were promoted to deputy commissioners in Lagos.
