The Rivers State House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed, Justice Peter Agumagu, former President of the Customary Court of Appeal, as the Chief Judge of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt had nullified the recommendation of National Judicial Council that Justice Daisy Okocha be appointed as chief judge of the state.
Gov. Chibuike Amaechi had challenged the recommendation of the NJC at Federal High Court in Port Harcourt.
NAN recalls that Agumagu had been the chief judge of the state in acting capacity since July 2013.
NAN reports that based on the court’s ruling, the assembly on Tuesday screened and confirmed the appointment of Agumagu as the substantive chief judge of Rivers.
The Speaker, Mr Otelemaba Amachree, who put a few questions to Agumagu, later said he had been confirmed as the chief judge of the state.
Amachree congratulated him and directed the clerk of the house to convey a letter of the confirmation to the governor.
