SCHOOLS MERGER: PFN WARNS AREGBESOLA AGAINST DIVIDING CHRISTIANS

Date:

The Osun State chapter of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria has warned Governor Rauf Aregbesola against seeking to divide the Christian Association of Nigeria in his bid to force on the people of the state the merger of schools embarked upon by his administration.
Chairman of PFN in the state, Rev. Olasunbo Ige; and state secretary, Pastor John Adeleke, gave this warning in a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo, the state capital, on Thursday.
The reaction of the PFN followed a story in some newspapers and the state broadcasting outfits that the PFN disagreed with CAN and accused the umbrella body of Christians in the country of peddling rumour rather than seeking information on the policy of schools reclassification in Osun State.
The pentecostals body said the story, which sought to cause disharmony among Christians, emanated from one of the aides of the governor.
The statement read, “We want to state categorically that Osun chapter of PFN under the leadership of Rev. Olasunbo Ige never met with any government official on any issue. Again, we need to explain that PFN in Osun State has never at any time disagreed with our umbrella body, the CAN, either at the state or national levels.
“Rather, we have been part of the struggle for good governance and we always stand for what CAN stood for in Osun. PFN is aware of several mischievous plans to create disaffection within the state CAN. But we in PFN reiterate our support for our leaders in CAN and we are solidly behind them in this just battle.
“We call on Osun State government to address all issues placed before Governor Rauf Aregebsola by the state chapter of CAN. We need to caution that politics of divide and rule cannot help in moving us forward.”
