SERIAL RAPIST BLAMES ‘SPIRIT OF RAPE’ FOR HIS CRIMES IN IMO

Date:

When the police apprehended Samuel Chukwunyere and declared him a serial rapist, the joy of residents of the sleepy village of Amaegbu Umulolo in Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State was mixed with sorrow. 34-year-old Samuel Chukwunyere, a native of Amaegbu would reportedly buy biscuits and sweets for unsuspecting young girls in the area to lure them to his building at Umugara Nkwerre LGA where he would rape and kill them. He ran out of luck when the police arrested him two months after he raped a 12-year-old-girl, Ifunanye Favour Ibe, to death.
The girl was declared missing in October 2013 by her parents after a fruitless search. Samuel had lured his latest victim, Ifunanye, with a handset to a very remote and deserted building in the area where he kept her in captivity, raping her repeatedly through the anus until she died. The accused told his story of ignominy.
“Last two months, I was passing through Umulolo area. I Crimused to go to that place normally to buy something from a woman they call Ndaa Julie.
So when I went to that place to buy something, different kinds of children came to me to say ‘brother buy me something,’ including this one that died.
Particularly, this one that died used to disturb me to buy something for them and I used to do so. “When the girl followed me, she now started asking me for money, I told her that I didn’t have money. She now started demanding that I should give her handset. She came with me to the house and I now gave her the handset which she started operating.
“When she started the handset and now asked if she could operate the handset, I said yes. When she started operating the handset, the spirit of raping now came upon me. I now saw her as something I could use and rape.
Now at the end of the day, I asked her that I wanted to use her she refused. I now raped her. I forced her through her private part. My thing did not enter. I now turned her. She now started shouting. I now held her well because I did not want anybody to hear her voice. I held her mouth and forced my thing through her anus.
As I saw that she was shouting, I wanted to release her so that she could breathe. But when I wanted to leave her, she now shouted. I held her back and continued to use her and in the process she fainted. I ran out to see if there was any person peeping at me when I was doing the thing.
“When I saw that there was no person, I came back to touch her in the nose and chest I saw that she had stopped breathing. I started wondering what I should do to hide the corpse of the girl. I now racked my brain racked my brain.
I had a shovel but it could not dig the ground because the place is stony. I now searched around my place here and found an abandoned building where I used to go to pick vegetable for cooking soup. I remembered that there was an old well there. I returned to the corpse and rolled it with some cloth. At about 1 O’clock in the midnight, I took it to the pit and threw it in. I have raped many young girls.”
Parading the suspect, the State Police Commissioner, Muhammad Katsina told journalists that the suspect who escaped after the incident, sought refuge in a village called Umugba in Abia State. Unfortunately for the suspect, said the police commissioner, “When he sneaked into the village again to continue his nefarious activity, he fell into the hands of the Ambush Squad that had been trailing him.”
According to the police boss, the suspect was discovered to be an unrepentant serial killer, having been involved in many ritual related murders from 2004 until the time he was arrested. He warned parents and members of the public, especially property owners, to be careful about the people they let out their houses to.
