SUPER EAGLES DEFEAT SWAZILAND 2-0

Date:

The Nigerian national football team, Super Eagles have qualified for the group stage qualifying round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup after defeating Swaziland in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Having played out a goalless draw in the first leg away at the Somhlolo National Stadium, the Super Eagles put up a superb display to defeat the visitors 2:0 in the return leg at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

After several misses in the first half, the Super Eagles came out smoking in the second half and their efforts latter paid off when Moses Simon broke the deadlock in the 50th minute.

The pacy winger curled home an unstoppable free kick from about 30 yards to appease the already agitated fans in the stadium.

Efe Ambrose tapped in from Sylvester Igbonu’s free kick in the 86th minute to put the game to bed and quench any hope of a late comeback from the visitors.

Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh ran some changes in his team, confining Chelsea’s midfielder, Mikel Obi, other regulars; Godfrey Oboabona and Elderson Echiejele to the bench after a disappointing showing in the first leg last Friday.

The Super Eagles have now won in their kitty $20, 000 promised them by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike for each goal and denied the Swaziland team the joy of celebrating with the goat promised them if they scaled the Eagles hurdles by their handlers.
