The announcement that a proposed Rambo legacyquel had landed at FOX brought uncertainty that Sylvester Stallone himself would reprise the role, despite being attached as executive producer. Now, it seems the former John Rambo won’t have any involvement with the series whatsoever, which could well draw final blood from New Blood.

Despite Stallone being announced as a producer for the new series, which itself was to follow the 1982 film character’s ex-Navy SEAL son J.R. Rambo (ugh, we know), Deadline uncovered that Stallone won’t actually take any role. Said the Creed star’s spokesperson:

Contrary to reports, Sylvester Stallone has opted not to participate in the planned Rambo television series in any way at all.

Stallon himself also added “I wish the others well with the project,” though without involvement from the man himself, Rambo: New Blood is seen as unlikely to move forward. Die Hard screenplay writer Jeb Stuart was to write and executive produce New Blood, alongside producer Avi Lerner.

In development since about 2013, Rambo wasn’t the only major Stallone franchise with an eye on TV adaptations at FOX, following news that The Expendables might also spawn a new series. At the time of its original announcement, Stallone was said not to appear on-camera reprising the role of John Rambo.

Rambo: New Blood may be over before it even begins, but you can watch the original trailer below, and stay tuned for the latest.
