TWO SUICIDE BOMBERS KILLED BY OWN EXPLOSIVES IN MAIDUGURI

Date:

Two suicide bombers were killed today by the explosives they strapped to their bodies before they reached their target at Molai, a village in the outskirt of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The explosions occurred around 11.20am, shortly after the arrival of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who was on a surprise visit to Maiduguri.
Though the two failed suicide missions occurred several kilometers away from the areas that the vice president passed through, deafening sound of the blasts were heard across the metropolis.
Witnesses said two young men with explosives strapped to their bodies
made fruitless attempts to enter the Molai General Hospital.
A security operative at the hospital said, “The two terrorists drove on bicycles and disguised as if they wanted to enter the hospital to see doctors or visit the sick. One of them wanted to gain access through the front door and the other one through the back door but were all denied.
“But when they were denied, the explosives in their bodies exploded and killed them,” he said.
Witness Grema Mukhtar said two other people that were close to the scene were injured.
Daily Trust reports that there was similar incident around the hospital on Saturday when two suicide bombers killed themselves in a failed attempt to enter the hospital. Sixteen people were injured.
