Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, and his Bauchi State counterpart, Mallam Isa Yuguda, yesterday displayed their enormous powers, with Sokoto’s deputy governor and Bauchi’s government scribe and Chief of Staff at the receiving end.
As their political differences worsened, Wamakko stripped his deputy, Mukhtari Shagari, of cabinet responsibility, taking away the Ministry of Science and Technology, which he had been overseeing, away from him.
Wamakko and Shagari had been locked in a cold war following the latter’s decision to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rather than defect with his principal to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
A statement signed by the Permanent Secretary (Political) in the office of the governor, Alhaji Malami Ladan, said that the Ministry of Science and Technology has been assigned to a newly sworn-in commissioner, Alhaji Ibrahim Hussain, as part of a minor cabinet reshuffle.
Meanwhile, in Bauchi, Governor Yuguda sacked the long-serving Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Ibrahim Dandija, and the Chief of Staff, Aljaji Yusuf Gumli.
A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Mr Ishola Michael Adeyemi, said Yuguda has approved the appointment of Alhaji Aminu Hammayo as the new SSG and Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Mohammed as the new Chief of Staff.
Before his appointment, Hammayo was the commissioner for Lands and Survey and also over saw the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, while Ibrahim was the Commissioner in charge of Ministry of Animal Resources and Nomadic Resettlement. The statement said that the two men will continue to oversee the activities of their ministries until further notice.
