WE ARE READY TO ACCOUNT FOR OUR CAMPAIGN FUND, SAYS APC

Date:

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday described as diversionary tactics, the comment credited to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the ongoing federal government probes on the alleged $2 billion arms deal by some of its members.

The PDP had in a press statement issued last week accused President Muhammadu Buhari of witch- hunting its members through the arms deal probe. It urged the president to extend its anti-corruption war to 1984, when he was the military Head of State, as well as a call for the probe of the APC source of fund which it used to prosecute its campaign for the 2015 presidential elections.

The APC which responded to the PDP had in a statement signed by its National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni noted that the opposition party has shown that it is uncomfortable with the war against corruption by the president, claiming that it was only giving a tacit support for anti-corruption crusade to avoid incurring the wrath of Nigerians.

Buni, who assured that the APC will be ready to give detailed account of its campaign fund at any time it is called to do so, accused the PDP of engaging in some ambiguous semantics to call for “an honest, holistic, and total war against corruption.”

“The body language of the PDP was clear on Sunday that it was uncomfortable with the ongoing probe of some of its stalwarts who are being investigated for looting the treasury with impunity. The opposition party must realise that the day of reckoning has come. There is no more hiding place for corrupt elements which it harbours in large number.
