National leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it stands firmly by its earlier statement that some prominent leaders of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) aided insurgency in the country through their careless utterances.
The party also accused the APC of heating up the polity in its pursuit of power shift by trying to distract President Goodluck Jonathan from his transformation agenda for the country.
Speaking at the PDP national secretariat yesterday in Abuja, national publicity secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh said the only thing the APC has to offer is insult on the office of the President and the national leadership of the PDP and not genuine quest for good governance.
“The issue of the attack which has to do with the statement that we issued after Nyanya bombing, especially on the statement and utterances of APC leaders like Buhari and the rest of them, that statement was made and all the members of the NWC of the PDP were unanimous; they virtually agreed on it. We stood by it, we stand by it today that if the opposition leaders had been more careful with their utterances, the polity would not have been overheated.
“The fact is that some of these insurgents have been financed by people who were encouraged by the utterances and statements made by some of these opposition leaders. We are happy today that they have chosen the part of wisdom to tamper their voice,” he said.
Metuh who described the statement as timely added that it had been able to have profound effect on the Nigeria’s body polity.
He said: “the statement of the opposition is definitely as ugly as their looks and their actions; it is a product of frustration, a product of resentment because a fulfilled human being will be cautious in his statement.”
Earlier, chairman of the PDP zonal publicity secretaries’ forum, Mr. Ali Odefa asked the opposition to be constructive in their criticism and team up with the PDP to build Nigeria.
