WORLD CUP: WESTERHOF OFFERS TO ASSIST KESHI

Former Super Eagles technical adviser, Clemence Westerhof, has offered to assist Stephen Keshi to prosecute this year’s FIFA World Cup, which kicks off in less than six weeks in the South American country of Brazil.
Westerhof made the offer in an interaction with some sports journalists in Lagos. The Dutch tactician made history when he led the Eagles to win the Africa Nations Cup for the Nigeria in 1994 and at the same time qualified he country to her World Cup debut the same year in the United States of America.
Westerhof’s desire to assist Keshi is borne out the love he has for the country even as he maintained that this is the best time for the reigning African champions to play in the last four at the World Cup.
Westerhof said Keshi and his team must, however maintain peace and play as a unit in other to achieve that target in Brazil.
“I am offering to assist Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi at the mundial in Brazil,” Westerhof said. “It is a proposal that I am making. It is not within me to be a part of the technical crew, but I want to help him to succeed. I am also making myself available because of the love I have for this country.
“I know that I can help him; that is why I am offering to assist him. I am not saying I should be in-charge. No! Keshi is the one in-charge. I am only offering to assist him to have a successful run at the World Cup.”
He offered some advice: “To succeed, Keshi and his team must play as a team. They must show that they are one. They must play as a unit. If you do not play as a unit, you will certainly have problems; so they must be one in the discharge of their responsibilities.
“This is the time for Nigeria to play in the last four at the World Cup. If you get to the last four you pray for luck and from there anything can happen.
“The proposal I am making is to help Nigeria, it is to help the team and to help Keshi achieve the set target. But just like I said earlier, it is not within me, it is a proposal. If I am asked to come, I will be more than willing to help because I want to assist Nigeria and I want her to do well in Brazil,” Westerhof added.
