A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) known as the ‘Fresh PDP’ has agreed to collapse into the mainstream PDP.
Announcing their decision after a meeting with a former national chairman of the party, Okwesilieze Nwodo, Saturday in Abuja, chairman of the ‘Fresh PDP’ Olukayode Akindele, said it was time for cease fire.
The faction emerged in protest of the result of the party’s national convention held on December 9, 2017, where Prince Uche Secondus was elected national chairman of the PDP.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the meeting, Akindele who presented a list of what the group called the ‘authentic NWC’ members in an envelope to Nwodo, said they had decided to sheath their sword in the interest of Nigeria and the 2019 general elections.
“I am delighted to tell you that we have collapsed into the mainstream PDP. We have assurances from our leaders and the we will not have a parallel NWC Monday,” he said.
On his part, Nwodo said that the reconciliation was reached with the knowledge of the Board of Trustees (BoT), the National Working Committee (NWC) and other organs of the party.
“If the Fresh PDP was allowed to form a structure on Monday, they would have given legitimacy to our members to leave the PDP.
“We have learnt our lessons and we are coming back more prepared and resolute to change the fortunes of this country,” Nwodo said.
Similarly, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan said, “What was perceived as crisis is over.”
