Former governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, has declared that he would work against the re-election bid of the incumbent governor of the state, Dapo Abiodun, in the 2023 governorship election.
Mr Amosun, a chieftain of the APC, however, said he was in full support of the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu, and would work to ensure his emergence as the next president of the country.
Speaking with BBC Yoruba on Monday, the former governor who is now a Senator representing Ogun Central, said he would, instead, support the candidate of the Action Democratic Congress, ADC, Biyi Otegbeye.
He said: “For the presidential poll, I can assure you, both right, left and centre, we are supporting one person (Tinubu). I believe we are supporting one person. On the governorship poll, that’s a different ball game. I don’t belong there.
“I don’t hide behind one finger to fight. That’s why people say to me ‘don’t say that.’ On governorship, my supporters and I, we don’t belong to that side.”
Mr Amosun had in 2019 opposed the candidature of the incumbent governor, backing his alleged stooge, Adekunle Akinlade, who ran under the platform of the Allied People’s Movement, APM.
