JEGA LEADS SIX INEC COMMISSIONERS TO CONDUCT EKITI GOV POLLS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that its Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, will personally lead a team of the commission’s top hierarchy to conduct the June 21 governorship election in Ekiti State.
INEC stated that Jega would be accompanied to Ekiti State by six national commissioners of INEC, supported by all the Resident Electoral Commissioners in the neighbouring states to Ekiti.
Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Alilu Pai, made the disclosure on yesterday while hosting a non-governmental organisation.
Pai observed that Jega’s decision to be in the state for the election was borne out of his commitment to a thorough exercise.
He offered apart from leading the team that would conduct the poll, Jega and his men would also supervise the exercise in a number of places to ensure fairness to all participating parties.
He explained that all arrangements had been made to ensure that electoral materials arriving the polling centres late does not arise.
Alhaji Pai said the commission appreciated the contributions of various interest groups as well as non-governmental organisations in seeing to the promotion of democracy in the country.
Earlier in an address, the Chairman of Ekiti State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Laolu Omosilade and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ekiti State Chapter chairman, Omodele Olawumi pledged that the civil society as a whole would do all it could to ensure success of the forthcoming election.
