The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi
Adeyemi, has heaped blames on former President Olusegun Obasanjo for the
alleged marginalisation of the Yoruba in the present administration.
    The monarch,
who received the former Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin, on a sympathy
visit over the January 8 fire incident in parts of the palace yesterday in Oyo,
noted that the eight-year rule of Obasanjo was a disservice to Yoruba people.
According to him, Obasanjo’s eight
year rule never ensured a succession policy for the Yoruba while he paid lip
service to issues that could assist the cause of the group.

The traditional ruler called on
Yoruba politicians to safeguard the cultural value of the Yoruba nation,
warning that Yoruba language and culture faced serious threat of extinction
following refusal of parents to teach their children local language and
culture.
The monarch canvassed for the
restoration of Yoruba history in the school curricular, reminding his visitors
that the race has blazed the trail in many areas which today have become the
cornerstone of national values and ethos.
Earlier, the former Senate leader
had sympathised with the Alaafin on the inferno in parts of the palace but was excited
that no life was lost. He apologised to the monarch for paying the visit
belatedly, citing ill-health as reason.
