Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on Tuesday in Abuja denied reports that he intended to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM).This is contained in a statement released to newsmen and signed by Malam Garba Shehu, Atiku’s Head of Media.
The statement said that the report was false.
“Our attention has been drawn to a recent publication which alleges that APC chieftain and presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar, intends to dump the opposition party APC for the PDM.
“This information is not only egregiously false, but our investigations have traced it to a senior APC member from the Northeast zone, who is working to further the presidential ambition of another aspirant within the party.
“He is also known to be working with certain elements in the PDP,’’ the statement said.
It stated that the Atiku Media Office had, over the past few months, to issue a number of rejoinders against falsehoods of such low quality.
It advised the public to henceforth disregard any information about Atiku published by a particular newspaper.
It recalled that at a meeting with media stakeholders in September, Atiku had said that the APC was his final bus stop.
“That proclamation still stands. Atiku Abubakar does not intend to leave the APC for the PDM or any other party. He believes in the change message of the APC.
He believes that APC is progress,’’ it stated further read.
It said the change and progress that Nigerians hoped for should include a media which could be relied upon to provide the public with factual, unbiased information. (NAN)
