There was drama yesterday in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri,
Borno State, when a 13-year-old girl suddenly identified a man as a member of
Boko Haram sect who killed her father and mother.
The teenager, who was selling sachet water in the popular
market in the metropolis, was said to have thrown away her wares and took to
her heels on sighting the suspected Boko Haram member, shouting, “Catch him,
catch him, this was the man who killed my parents  nine months ago.”
The teenager’s action created a scene and attracted traders
and patrons of the market, who immediately swelled into a crowd around the Boko
Haram killer suspect. Traders at the market confirmed that they suddenly saw
the girl running and shouting, with her wares thrown on the ground.

Daily Newswatch learnt that the man also gave himself away
when he attempted to run away, but was given a chase and rammed down by youths
and passersby in the market. The traders said the scene attracted the attention
of the police at a police station close by, who immediately came to take away
both the suspect and the girl.
And as youth groups intensified their search for Boko Haram
members, four of the sect members were captured in Mairi Ward, close to the
University of Maiduguri, in the state capital.
The youths, numbering 11, were said to have voluntarily embarked on the search
for the sect’s members who they insisted live among them.
Seven other sect members were also said to have been held by
youth groups in different parts of the metropolis. The youths were said to have
laid siege to the suspected terrorists’ neighbourhood before they swoop on
them. The seven were captured, while the others escaped. The suspected Boko
Haram members were said to have been handed over to the security operatives.
Two other suspected Boko Haram members were again captured
around Post Office area of the city and were immediately handed over to nearby
Joint Task Force (JTF) operatives.  Only two days ago, Daily Newswatch reported
that some youths have formed themselves to volunteer groups, embarking on
house-to-house search for Boko Haram members in Maiduguri and its environ.
Efforts to reach the police and the JTF operatives to
confirm the story proved abortive as telecommunications remained grounded since
the declaration of emergency rule in the state in the last one month.
