National Security Adviser (NSA) Mohammed Sambo Dasuki has called for a global collaborative effort to combat corruption as it fuels terrorism.
He spoke yesterday when he declared open the 6th edition of the Interpol global programme on anti corruption, financial crimes and asset recovery in Abuja.
“The world is challenged now, more than ever before by all kinds of crimes perpetuated on such scale that necessarily requires collaborative efforts to tackle effectively,” he said. “Corruption is one of such multi-faceted crimes that affect all aspects of our lives and we should not only abhor it, but must also take action aimed at curbing the menace,” Dasuki argued.
Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Lamorde, said, “Corruption on a scale in which we confront it today is hardly a simplistic, one-man criminal endeavour.
“That is why at national levels, we are devoting enormous resources to set up operational institutions. We are putting so much into building legal architectures and to drive through reform programmes.”
Chairman, Senate committee on Drugs and Narcotics, Senator Victor Lar (PDP, Plateau) said the National Assembly is working on a bill that will enable all anti-corruption agencies in the country draw funding from the first line charge to run their operations smoothly.
Senator Lar also said an asset recovery agency will soon be established by the National Assembly to manage the asset recovery management.
