The family of the ailing Deputy Governor of
Ekiti State, Mrs Funmilayo Olayinka, has alleged that some prominent
politicians eyeing her job are the cause of her sickness. Mrs Olayinka is
presently on sick leave.
In an interview with Saturday Independent, the family source,
the Sasere of Ado-Ekiti, Chief Segun Famuagun, elder brother of the deputy
governor, said the family has discovered that some desperate politicians, who
want to take the position of deputy governor were behind Mrs Olayinka’s
sickness.
He said the family had long discovered that the
sickness of Olayinka,  “is an attack” rather than what is being insinuated in some quarters.

Famuwagun, a legal practitioner, also averred that the
governor of the state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, told him that some politicians
are already lobbying for her
office.
“I met the governor and he told me that people are already
mounting pressure on him to replace her but the governor said he would not do
that. But I consider those politicians to be callous. For three and half years
that they were in the trenches, where were these politicians. Besides, my
sister, until recently, was hale and hearty but I can assure you she will
survive it,” he said.
The apparently disturbed Famuwagun said: “If they want to
kill her because of the office she is occupying, is it not normal for the
family to ask her to resign. If she is your sister, will you ask her to remain
in office for the wicked to kill her?  Her health matters more to us than
the office. And to confirm our fears, for how many weeks has
she been sick that they have started presenting another candidate to the
governor. Dr. Fayemi told me and you can quote me”. “We are all in this
country, the wife of the President, Mrs Patient Jonathan was ill, she even said
she died seven times, she survived it, so also many state governors. So, her
case is not different but I can
assure you she will bounce back and those wishing her dead should stop playing
God.”
Meanwhile, Ekiti State Government has called for prayers for the
deputy governor.
The government’s official reaction, which came through the Commissioner for
Information, Tayo Ekundayo, stated that the deputy governor “has taken
leave to attend to issues relating to her health”.
Ekundayo urged all “well-meaning citizens of the state to
remember her in their prayers.”
However, a source close to the deputy governor told journalists that she
applied for leave.
The source, who could not ascertain the duration of the leave,
expressed surprise that the state government said she was on sick leave.
According to the source, “the deputy governor is on leave and not sick leave. I
do not know about that information.”
It would be recalled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last week raised
the alarm over the whereabouts of the deputy governor, who they alleged was
“down with some ailment prompting her absence from office for over eight weeks.”
