AMID the controversy generated by the decision of the Bayelsa State government to have its flag, anthem and coat of arm, Governor Seriake Dickson yesterday signed the State Symbols and Songs 2012 and other bills passed by the state House of Assembly into law.
The bill, which was signed, among seven others, at the meeting of the state Executive Council held yesterday at the Government House, Yenagoa, provided a unique opportunity for government to make a clear pronouncement on the real intendment of the law.
He said the decision to have state symbols and songs were as a
result of their belief in true federalism as a cardinal cornerstone of Nigerian
nationhood and it is in exercise of our inalienable rights as a federating
unit.
