Federal
Executive Council (FEC) yesterday approved a special training policy for the
drivers of convoy vehicles of ministers, governors, permanent secretaries and
heads of government agencies.
Speaking to State House correspondents
at the end of the weekly FEC meeting, the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran
Maku, said the training “is aimed at forestalling the increasing rate of
accidents involving VIPs in recent times.”
He said it would be conducted by
officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

He said: “In the report presented to
council by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) some of the drivers were said
to be unqualified while some have visual impairment. FEC therefore adopted a
training policy for all drivers of heads of MDAs, permanent secretaries and
governors. They have to be properly trained to be physically and mentally
stable. The council urged FRSC to continue to train all drivers in the
country.”
Maku also said the Council
commiserated with the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, over the recent attack
on his convoy which resulted in the death of five of his aides.
“We condemn the attempt on his life.
We will hunt down the attackers. The incident will show that the issue is what
we all need to condemn and work against terrorism.”
