Suspected gunmen yesterday in
Kaduna robbed and killed the younger brother of the Group Managing Director
(GMD) of  the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Engr. Andrew
Yakubu, about 120 kilometres outside Kaduna town.
The victim, as Mr. Yohanna
Yakubu, was killed in a forest situated around Idon in Kachia local government
area while travelling to his village, Ungwan Wakili, in Zangon Kataf local
government area, to attend a burial ceremony.
He was also a senior staff of
the NNPC of  more than 20 years before his death.
Kaduna state Police Command has
confirmed the incident through its spokesman, DSP Aminu Lawan, who told Blueprint last night that the police had
launched a manhunt for the killers.

The incident, according to a
source, who pleaded for anonymity, occurred around 7am, when the hoodlums
opened fire on the blue Toyota Corolla car he was driving with his wife and two
other persons.
The source said: “He was with
his wife, another woman and one other girl that stays with his immediate
family, when the incident occurred. He was first shot from afar and then at
close range. The bullets passed through the windscreen and hit him, the glasses
were shattered, he lost control, but did not somersault and they still trailed
and robbed them.
“The three persons in the car,
including his wife, were unhurt. But they were heavily shocked, particularly
his wife. She went out of the car screaming and wailing towards them, while the
men whose number from her account were many finally escaped before help could
come their way in the forest. But the corpse has been retrieved and brought to
St. Gerald’s Catholic Hospital, Kaduna and the car is till at the scene.”
When this correspondent visited
their Narayi, Kaduna home, the wife was said to be on admission at the Kaduna
Refinery Clinic where she is receiving medical attention, while hundreds of
family and associates were seen trooping to their home.
