Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State has debunked allegations that he nominated a dead man for appointment into one of the boards to manage the affairs of one of the parastatals in the state.
The governor who was accused on social media and an online news media of nominating a dead man, James Youmu for appointment said it was wrong to say such.
He disclosed that there was likelihood that the dead man shares the same name with his nominee, observing that there is also another Emmanuel Uduaghan in the state too.
Uduaghan gave the clarification at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders meeting in Asaba.
According to him, “We did not submit a dead man’s name to the House of Assembly for approval; there are cases where two persons bear the same name.”
He stated that his administration would not relent in creating job opportunities for Deltans, disclosing that the Delta Beyond Oil Initiative was designed to create the enabling environment for investment to thrive.
While noting that thirty persons per local government are currently benefiting from the youth and women empowerment programme of his administration, the governor said the number of persons would be increased to 50 in the next few weeks.
According to him, the empowerment programme was designed in such a way that the leadership of the party at local government levels nominate beneficiaries of the empowerment programme, disclosing that efforts are on to ensure that local government councils do not derail the programme.
