Former vice president and presidential aspirant of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC), Alhaji Atiku
Abubakar, said yesterday that he was indebted to ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo. He made the remark shortly after meeting the former leader in his country home in Abeokuta, where he said he had come to discuss the state of the nation with his former boss.
“When President Olusegun Obasanjo became candidate in our great party then, he nominated me to be his vice president then and that gave me the opportunity to serve this country at the highest level, I am greatly indebted to I’m and the people of this state for that opportunity.”Atiku also spoke on the crisis in Ogun State chapter of APC, declaring that the party would not give up efforts to make former governor Chief Olusegun Osoba and his group, who recently defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), to make a U-turn.
Atiku, who arrived Obasanjo’s residence at about 2.55 pm had earlier paid courtesy visit on Governor Ibikunle Amosun and was taken round some of projects of the administration in the state capital. He had also met with the executive members of the APC in the state at the Gateway Lodge in the Government Reservation Area before arriving at Obasanjo’s Hilltop residence. He was accompanied by some of his loyalists and waited for Obasanjo who had gone out on a private visit before they went into the meeting and had lunch.
On collection of nomination form by House of Representatives Speaker Aminu Tambuwal, he said the development was a welcome one, adding that: “The more the merrier, APC is a very democratic party, so the more the merrier.”
