Lagos To Ease Truck Movement Along Lekki-Epe Road With E-Call-Up

Date:

The Lagos State government is to introduce an electronic call-up system for managing truck movement within the Lekki-Epe corridor from August 1, 2024, to ease movement.

This move is expected to avert congestion by articulated trucks and improve the efficiency of logistics operations within the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone corridor.

Oluwaseun Osiyemi, commissioner for transport said the move was driven by the urgent need to implement a sustainable, effective, and technology-driven solution for truck movement in the Lekki-Epe corridor.

Osiyemi said the application of an e-call-up system would help synchronise the movement of trucks assessing the Lekki Deep Seaport and other industries within the corridor, starting from Eleko junction to the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

The move, he said, was in line with the government plans for road expansion and inter-modal transport system streamlining vehicular traffic as well as enhancing free movement in one of Lagos’ most critical economic zones.

Also speaking on the development, Sola Giwa, special adviser to the governor on transportation, who is saddled with the enforcement of the e-call-up system along the Lekki-Epe corridor, said an interim arrangement was being put in place to decongest the road through the evacuation of all illegal tankers from the red zone by a joint task force.

He said the task force was made up of the state, LGAs/CDAs, security agencies, and stakeholders, urging truck operators and logistics companies to comply with the new system to ensure its success.
