The Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has promised to back Fulani settlers of Niger Republic to acquire more education. Lamido made the disclosure on Wednesday, while receiving a delegation from Maradi State of Niger Republic, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Dutse, the state capital.
He explained that supporting Fulani in Niger, especially the young generation, to acquire more education was not different from supporting same in Nigeria. Lamido said Niger Republic and Nigeria, particularly Jigawa State that shares boundaries with Niger, had similarities that bind the two countries together.
A delegation led by the Maradi State deputy governor, Malam Sidi Muhamman, commended the Jigawa State governor for sponsoring the education of 27 Fulani nomads. Muhamman said what Lamido did in sponsoring the education of the nomads was unprecedented and would remain in the memories of the people of Niger Republic for a long time.
According to him, “the Jigawa State governor had already paid N7 million for the education of stranded Fulani nomads that had never had the opputunity to further their education in the past.”
He said the governor of Maradi deemed it necessary to send the delegation led by the deputy governor and commissioner for education to thank the Jigawa State governor for the gesture.
