More than 2000 people from various parts of the
world on Wednesday in London  gathered at the St. Paul’s cathedral for the
funeral service of former British Prime Minister Baroness Margaret Thatcher.
Thatcher, who was  British Prime Minister from 1979 to 1990, and
leader of the British Conservative party died on April 8 following a long
battle with stroke.
She is being given a ceremonial funeral a step lower than a state burial
in recognition of leadership role as British head of government which earned
her the name “Iron Lady’’.
The Ceremonial funeral started with a procession in central London amid
tight  security, following  threats of protest by anti-Thatcher
groups.

No fewer than 4000 police officers were detailed to provide security in
London in order to forestall any unrest or security breach in the course of the
event..
Thatcher’s hearse was flanked by police outriders as it left the British
parliament building (Westminster) where her
body lay overnight to travel to St. Clement Danes, the Royal Air Force
church on strand where it was transferred to a gun carriage.
Her coffin covered with Union jack was carried in the gun carriage to the
cathedral with military guard of honour.
