A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Jimi Agbaje, on Monday, promised that the party would not only create an electoral upset next February but also rule Lagos State for 16 uninterrupted years.
Consequently, he has asked party members to ensure PDP’s victory in the gubernatorial polls so that Mr Sikiru Ogboye, a PDP agent, shot dead earlier this month, did not die in vain.
Agbaje, who was addressing party delegates from Lagos East Senatorial district at Mende, Maryland in Lagos, enjoined them to work assiduously for PDP’s success based on the eagerness of Lagos residents for a change of guard in the state.
It will be recalled that Ogboye was shot dead, allegedly on the orders of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while monitoring the Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) distribution exercise on November 9.
Two APC chieftains, governorship aspirant, Dr Tola Kasali, and a Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor, Alhaji Muslim Tele Folami, are currently facing murder charges for the killing.
Agbaje, who called for a minute’s silence in honour of the slain PDP official at the meeting, predicted that PDP was set to dislodge APC from power through the ballot in 2015 and rule Lagos for the next 16 years.
“When PDP secures power in Lagos, it won’t be for four years, eight years, and not even 16 years. This is because PDP has come to reorganise Lagos and develop it to world standard,” Agbaje said.
He promised that his government would bring development to Lagos East Senatorial Zone, comprising places like Ibeju-Lekki, Eti-Osa, Kosofe, Ikorodu and Epe councils.
“We will solve the current transportation problems in Ikorodu. Epe has perennial power challenges, and the current Lagos government has given up, riding on the excuse that electricity is on the exclusive list. Even then, we shall facilitate electricity supply to that place by inviting rapid government intervention,” he said.
He told the delegates that at the December 8 party primaries, they should select as Lagos PDP candidate somebody who will run an all-inclusive administration.
“As delegates, you own the party. If you select someone unsuitable and overbearing, he will simply take the party from you and exclude you from making inputs into the government,” he said.
