The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, said on Tuesday that he was not aware of the agenda of the meeting members of the People Democratic Party caucus in the House of Representatives held with President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday night.
The PDP caucus at the House had met with Jonathan in Abuja on Monday night.
The meeting took place at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
The Deputy Speaker, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha, and the House Majority Leader, Mrs. Mulikat Akande-Adeola, led the caucus members to the meeting.
The Speaker, who is the most senior ranking member of the PDP at the House, did not attend the meeting, but the PDP governors did.
At the session, the House members endorsed Jonathan for the 2015 presidential election.
However, reacting through his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs on Tuesday, Mr. Imam Imam, the Speaker said he would not comment on the agenda of a meeting he was not part of.
Tambuwal said since he did not participate at the meeting, he could not possibly comment on the outcome of the agenda.
“The Speaker did not participate at the meeting, how will he now be commenting on the agenda?
“He was not at the meeting, he did not participate, so he cannot comment on decisions taken there,” Imam added.
Asked why Tambuwal did not attend the meeting, since he must have been invited to the meeting, Imam replied, “Are you sure the Speaker was invited? Are you sure he was aware before he travelled to Sokoto? “Do you know when the Speaker travelled to Sokoto?”
Imam explained that Tambuwal was not in Abuja on Monday, a reason he could not have attended the meeting.
“The Speaker was away in Sokoto. He came back only this morning (Tuesday). He went to see the people of his constituency; you know he likes to relate a lot with his people at the constituency,” the special adviser added.
Akande-Adeola had addressed reporters shortly after the meeting with Jonathan ended.
She stated that the caucus endorsed the President for next year’s election.
When asked why Tambuwal was not part of the meeting, she said the question should be directed to Tambuwal.
On the decision at the meeting, she said, “We are PDP caucus of the House of Representatives. A meeting like this is not strange because we met with the President, who is our party leader. We deliberated on issues affecting our party.
