Street, near the finish line.
On Monday afternoon, explosions were detonated
near the finish line of the Boston marathon, which attracted 27,000
participants from 56 countries.
Some reports are linking the blasts to terrorism
activities. However, there has been no official reaction from the US
government. Competitors and race organisers were crying as they fled the chaos,
The Associated Press reported. Bloody spectators were being carried to the
medical tent that had been set up to care for fatigued runners.
“There are a lot of people down,” said one man,
according to The A.P., whose bib No. 17528 identified him as Frank Deruyter of
North Carolina.
He was not injured, but marathon workers were
carrying one woman, who did not appear to be a runner, to the medical area as
blood gushed from her leg. A Boston police officer was wheeled from the course
with a leg injury that was bleeding, The A.P. said.
The Boston Police Department confirmed that they
were looking into an explosion, but had no further comment.
The headquarters for the organisers of the
marathon, one of the world’s oldest, was reportedly locked down while
authorities investigate.
As of the time of filling this report, according
to Mail Online, 12 people were reportedly dead and 60 injured.
Two unexploded bombs were also reportedly found
near the scene of the explosion, while almost an hour after the first two
explosions, another bomb exploded at J.F. Kennedy Library.
Meanwhile, President Barack Obama has ordered
probe into the cause of the blasts.
Authorities have also declared a no fly zone over
the scene of the bomb blasts, while all citizens were advised to stay at home
and avoid large crowd.
