TRAVEL BAN: US IGNORES AONDOAKAA’S SUIT

The  suit of the former
Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mike Aondoakaa,
over the revocation of his travel visa by the Obama-led administration in June,
2010 may have suffered a setback as the United States government has decided to
maintain its stand, many months after the said petition was filed.
LEADERSHIP can authoritatively
report that the United States Department of State will continue to snub Aondoakaa’s
petition which he filed at a US disrict court in New Jersey on the grounds of
lack of merits in the appeal.

A source at the Department of
State who communicated with our correspondent through an electronic mail over
this issue, yesterday, noted that  there was nothing that would make the
United States government rescind its decision to ensure that the former
Attorney General and members of his immediate family do not enter into America
again.
The source, a reliable one, added
that Mr. Aondoakaa’s prayer to the court to force the American government to
officially communicate to him the reason why his visa and those of his family
members were revoked in 2010 would suffer an ill-fate as the United States is
not under any conventional obligation to do so.
He pressed further that the
Nigerian government is encouraging corruption, and stressed that this has
reinforced the decision of the United States government to impose travel ban on
Nigerian leaders who have already been identified to be corrupt.
“I can confirm to you that the
American government will do all it can to flush out corruption from Nigeria,
her most strategic partner in sub- saharann Africa.
We have started this by imposing
travel ban on some of its leaders and an instance of such is that of Mr. Mike
Aondoakaa whose visa was revoked about three years ago.
