State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has explained that his administration is
building a new Government House to ensure effective and more coordinated
running of the affairs of the state from the same location.
Uduaghan, in a statement on Thursday, also said the facility had
become a necessary legacy for the 21-year-old state.

The complex, the governor added, would cost the state about N6bn
to complete.
He said, “If you look at the current Government House in Asaba,
you will realize that it has always been a temporary arrangement, not a
permanent feature. But we cannot continue to live in a temporary accommodation.
We have to do the right thing and do it well.
“Take a look at the Government House of most of the states in
Nigeria and those created at the same time with Delta, you will understand that
others have built permanent government houses, but we still manage a small
place in Asaba.”
Uduaghan believes that at 21, Delta should be able to present a
Government House in Asaba that would not only be able to facilitate efficient
running of the machinery of governance, but capable of attracting high profile
investors.
“When an investor comes to this Government House, there is a
perception that he or she is going to do business with people that are serious
and business-minded. We are committing to developing the state and not erecting
buildings,” he said.
Uduaghan explained that the state had begun the construction of
a 23-kilometre road that would link nine villages from Warri to Ode Itshekiri
which would cost about N24bn.
“The five kilometers we have constructed on the road have opened
up different communities and reduced the pressure on land in the Warri areas.
You need to see how people and even a tank farm have moved to these new areas.
The activities in these areas have increased and helped in developing new
communities, though the terrain is difficult; you know our type of
environment,” he said.
The Commissioner for Special Duties, Orezi Esievo, debunked
insinuations that the Government House project was a waste of resources, saying
the complex would help to coordinate important activities of government.
